POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: College Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Planning & Institutional Services SITE: DO

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P   GRADE: C

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides professional services in the areas of mechanical and structural engineering and performs project coordination on college construction projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Performs mechanical and structural design services in conjunction with various College construction, renovation and remodeling projects.

v      Assists the College Architect in the preparation of construction documents and providing management services for in-house projects.

v      Coordinates with engineering and architectural firms in the development of bidding documents.

v      Acts as liaison between College and architectural/engineering firms during construction.

v      Inspects progress during construction and expedites corrective action through supervision.

v      Attends meetings, reviews pay requests, keeps log of construction progress in accordance with 6A-2.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in structural or mechanical engineering. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in related engineering work. Applicants must be registered and currently licensed by the State of Florida.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of structural design services needed for building construction. Knowledge of construction methods and practices. Knowledge of state requirements for educational facilities. Ability to read blueprints and interpret construction contract documents. Verbal and written communications skills. Ability to maintain working relationships with contractors, consultants and staff. Must be able to climb ladders and perform inspections on all construction sites.
