POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Environmental Specialist

DEPARTMENT:   Facilities Services   SITE: DO

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P GRADE: A

BASIC FUNCTION:

Administers the college’s environmental safety and hazardous substance abatement programs which include collegewide procedures for the purchase, storage, and use of chemicals and the disposal of hazardous materials and waste.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, safety and health or with emphasis in physical and biological science.  EPA Certification in Asbestos Abatement – Facility Survey & Building Systems and Asbestos Abatement Planning & Management.  OSHA Health and Safety for Hazardous Material Certification.  National Safety Council Right-to-Know Certification or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in either or any combination of the following fields:  environmental protection, industrial hygiene or occupational safety and health.
 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental and occupational safety and health regulations.  Must be able to perform inspections and investigations involving the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes.  Ability to investigate and resolve indoor air quality issues.  Ability to review and interpret laboratory reports and related documents.  Oral and written communications skills. Skill in reading comprehension.  Knowledge of basic mathematics.
