BASIC FUNCTION:
Directs and administers the
collegewide employee safety, fire safety and environmental programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v
Develops
and maintains comprehensive employee safety, fire safety and environmental
programs which incorporate current practices and philosophies adopted as the
most effective in preventing injuries, occupational diseases, damage to
equipment, materials and the environment and also comply with Department of
Labor and Employment Security (OSHA standards), Department of Education, U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, and Florida Department of Environmental
Protection rules and regulations.
v
Supervises
safety and environmental staff assigned to carry out the objectives of the
employee safety, fire safety, and environmental programs.
v
Oversees
the collegewide comprehensive safety and casualty inspection program to ensure
compliance with Chapter 6A-2, Florida Administrative Code.
v
Coordinates
compliance with federal, state and county safety and environmental rules and
regulations.
v
Consults
with administrative and career staff to provide guidance concerning safety and
environmental matters.
v
Assists
department heads and supervisors in developing employee safety and health
training programs.
v
Assists
department heads and supervisors in identifying real or potential threats to
employee safety and health, evaluates the risks to employee safety and health,
and recommends or assists in developing procedures and selection of equipment
and materials to correct unsafe conditions and practices.
v
Conducts
follow-up investigations where required to ensure that unsafe conditions or
practices identified by the safety committee or department heads have been
corrected.
v
Periodically
evaluates compliance with the safety program by making inspections of
facilities for conditions and practices which may threaten employee safety and
health.
v
Develops
and maintains a safety policy and procedures manual for use by all college
employees.
v
Serves
on the college Safety Committee.
v
Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree
with some emphasis in fire protection, occupational safety and health.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years experience
in safety, loss prevention and control, or fire protection.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the principles
and practices of fire protection, industrial safety and health, physical and
biological sciences. Communications skills. Ability to conduct meetings with
groups. Ability to perform comprehensive safety inspections, accident
investigations, and to prepare employee safety training programs. Requires DOE,
6A-2 Inspector Certification to perform casualty and sanitation inspections.
