POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Student Financial Assistance Officer

DEPARTMENT: Scholarships & Student Financial Assistance SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P - GRADE: A

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides advice and assistance to students regarding availability and eligibility requirements for scholarships and financial assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Advises prospective and currently enrolled students about available financial assistance, veterans benefits and scholarships.

v      Assesses persons financial situation to properly determine financial assistance needs. Performs needs analysis in accordance with guidelines.

v      Prepares the documentation package for financial assistance as determined by Federal and State rules and regulations relating to financial aid.

v      Recommends the financial assistance award or approves individual awards.

v      Monitors and evaluates students’ standard of academic progress.

v      Maintains liaison with faculty, counselors, staff and students.

v      Counsels students relating to award, dependency status and standards of academic progress.

v      Processes appeals for re-calculation of needs analysis based on changes in student's circumstances.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in financial aid, including experience in advising and awarding financial assistance to students, preferably at a junior college level.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of Federal, State and College rules and regulations relating to financial aid. Knowledge of the techniques used in advising, interviewing and assisting students in the financial aid process. Knowledge of the curriculum and programs at SPJC. Ability to maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty and students. Ability to advise and counsel students. Written and verbal communications skills. Computer skills, Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines. Skill in mathematics. Ability to make financial aid presentations to individuals and groups.
