1. Distinguish between endocrine and exocrine glands, physically and physiologically.

2. For the following endocrine organs and their hormones: name the production organ/cells; identify the action of each hormone.

Hypothalamus: releasing hormones
Adenohypophysis: growth hormone, FSH, LH, prolactin
Neurohypophysis: oxytocin, ADH
Thyroid Gland: thyroxine (T3 and T4), calcitonin
Parathyroids: PTH
Adrenal Cortex: aldosterone, cortisol
Adrenal Medulla: epinephrine and norepinephrine
Pancreas: insulin and glucagon
Thymus: thymosin

Be able to recognize the following production sites.

hypothalamus
anterior pituitary
posterior pituitary
parathyroid cells
follicular cells of thyroid
parafollicular cells of thyroid
alpha cells of pancreas
beta cells of pancreas
adrenal cortex
adrenal medulla
