The Digestive System

Textbook chapter: 25.


1. Describe the general functions of the Digestive system.
2. Describe the gross anatomy of the organs of the alimentary canal and digestive accessory organs. Be able to follow a piece of food through the alimentary canal from the mouth to the anus using the propulsive movements (e.g, peristalsis). Identify some digestive movements.
3. Identify the cardiovascular routes to/from the digestive organs. Include the hepatic portal system.
4. Describe the four layers of the alimentary canal organs, including tissues forming each, and their functions.
5. Name and briefly describe the chemcial digestive processes, including basic understanding of what food molecules are digested to what nutrient molecule..
