I. Gross Muscular System A. General muscle gross morphology (reminder)
1. Origin - least movable point of attachment site

2. Insertion - most movable point of attachment site

3. Belly - bulk of muscle - surrounded by epimysium

B. Muscle functions 1. Agonist (prime mover)- muscle primarily responsible for certain movement

2. Antagonist - muscle doing opposite of prime mover

3. Synergists - helpful muscles

4. Fixators - stabilize prime movers resulting in lessened or no movement.

C. Naming muscles 1. Direction of fibers (rectus, transverse, oblique)

2. Location (temporalis, occipitalis, external oblique) rectus, abdominals

3. Size (gluteus maximus, minimus, longus, brevis)

4. Origins & insertions (sterno-cleidomastoid)
Number of origins (biceps, triceps)

5. Shape (deltoid D, trapezious , rhomboideus

6. Function (adductors)
