POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Lead Printer

BASIC FUNCTION:
Functions as lead
worker within the Print Shop including working as an operator of all complex
offset printing and duplication equipment in multi-color production or
reproduction of printed data.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trains other printing personnel in the use of all
printing and related equipment.

Receives and processes artwork from graphics
personnel. Assesses job orders.

Makes printing plates from camera-ready artwork.
Custom blends in colors from customer requests.

Coordinates the coloring and duplicating process
in the Print Shop assuring it matches job request.
-
Communicates problems and maintains working
relationships with all outside equipment maintenance vendors.

Coordinates with graphics personnel to ensure
correct printing.

Operates all types of complex multi-color offset
printing and duplicating equipment. Requires constant bending and the lifting of paper.

Operates all other machines that perform the
following: cutting, folding, jogging, hole punching, collating, binding,
saddle-stitching, plate making. Requires constant bending and the lifting of large sheets of paper.

Completes all assigned print requests including
documents with a greater degree of difficulty associated with the use of
various ink colors.

Assists with the finishing of completed printed
documents. Prepares material for shipping.
Requires the reboxing of materials weighing 50 pounds or
more for shipping to customers

Performs plate making requirements for the
completion of printing requests.

Trains other printing personnel in the use of all
printing and related equipment.

Completes equipment adjustments and repairs.
Requires frequent bending and lifting sometimes in
awkward positions.

Assists with filling orders for paper supplies
for departments collegewide.
Requires frequent lifting
of materials weighing 50 pounds or more.

Assists with the maintenance of the print shop
and the paper warehouse.
-
Performs related duties as required which
includes restocking the warehouse with cases of paper 50 pounds or more;
some cartons weigh as much as 150 pounds.

Requires standing for at least six hours a day
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an
accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Five (5) years
experience in printing or duplicating work.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Skill in use of all
complex printing and duplicating machines. Skill in basic reading comprehension.
Ability to understand and carry out customer requests and requirements. Skill in
estimating paper needs. Leadership skills. Ability to coordinate work of other
Printers. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to pass a post-qualification
physical examination.
