POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Academic Advisor
DEPARTMENT: Counseling &
Advisement SITE: Various
SALARY SCHEDULE: Senior Career
- GRADE: 6
BASIC FUNCTION:
Advises students concerning the choice
of academic courses needed to accomplish the students' academic goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advises students concerning the choice
of academic courses to meet their goals.

Furnishes students with a planned program
to meet academic goals and SPC's goals.

Refers students to counselor for any problem
which needs to be examined other than academic, such as vocational testing,
personal counseling, etc.

Explains the prerequisite requirements
to students for the placement in academic courses. Interprets placement
test results.

Assists students in registration procedures.
Proctors testing sessions.

Procures and discusses resource materials
to assist students in planning vocational and educational goals (beyond
the students' tenure at SPC).

Provides off-campus functions such as
radio promotions, information booths, presentations, etc.

Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's Degree. Bachelor's Degree
preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience in a college in student services, student development or related area.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of SPC academic departments
and programs. Knowledge of sentence structure. Knowledge of word usage.
Skill in reading comprehension. Skill in proofreading. Knowledge of basic
mathematics. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to operate data entry
equipment. Verbal and written communications skills. Human relations skills.
