POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Academic Advisor – Special Programs
DEPARTMENT: Special Programs SITE: CL
SALARY SCHEDULE: Senior Career GRADE: 6
BASIC FUNCTION:
Advises students with special needs concerning the choice of academic courses needed to accomplish the students' academic goals. Serves as liaison between College and outside agencies in improving specialized services for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Associate's Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience in working with special populations.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of SPC programs relating
to special populations. Knowledge of deafness, sign language
and the deaf culture. Knowledge of current trends in assisting students with
special needs.
Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability
to operate data entry equipment. Verbal and written communications skills.
Human relations skills. Ability to communicate with deaf/hard-of-hearing
students. Ability to advise students enrolled in this type of program.
Ability to collect and generate reports. Skill in sign language.
