POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Financial Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Business Services

BASIC FUNCTION:
Performs responsible, advanced and
difficult work in the maintenance of complex accounting records and reports.
This classification differs from the Accounting Technician classification
due to the complexity of work and the advanced knowledge required to perform
the assigned functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functions as the primary assistant to
an professional accountant in performing a variety of paraprofessional
accounting functions.

Coordinates the monthly bank reconciliation
process for all college bank accounts. Prepares monthly summaries for review
by the a supervisor or Accountant..

Maintains college financial records of
capital outlay in coordination with Facilities Planning and Institutional
Services.

Develops, calculates, maintains, updates
or compiles accounting records and information.

Performs account reconciliations and reviews
summaries for programs or projects assigned.

Assists in assigning and reviewing the
work of a technical or clerical staff.

Represents the department when in contact
with other departments and students.

Inputs and produces financial reports
and other statistical data. Prepares accounting reports from information
supplied by accountants.

Controls and processes payment of invoices
in a specific area.

Assists in the preparation, implementation
and control of the operating budget for a campus or department.

Performs statistical analysis and compiles
reports such as productivity comparisons, cost analysis, fund status and
comparisons, fund expenditures and personnel position status reports.

Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree in a business related
field. Completion of upper level accounting courses.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years of responsible experience
in paraprofessional accounting or full-charge computerized bookkeeping
work.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of accounting practices and
procedures. Knowledge of the college procedures involving accounting. Knowledge
of computerized accounting systems. Knowledge of sentence structure. Knowledge
of word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Knowledge of mathematics
and basic accounting. Ability to keyboard at a prescribed rate of speed
and accuracy. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to operate data
entry equipment. Communications skills. Ability to deal with employees,
students and outside agencies.
