BASIC FUNCTION:
Plans, coordinates and administers
a phase of the college information services program to advance the institutional
objectives. Employees assigned to this classification function in a specific
program of institutional advancement or may be assigned projects that involve
several areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plans, coordinates and administers a program
to provide information to the public which promotes the services and programs
of SPC.

Performs specialized functions in an assigned
aspect of institutional advancement.

Coordinates the material distribution
via community displays in regional shopping malls, businesses and retail
stores and other locations.

Implements a program of community displays
of college information throughout the area to promote college programs
and objectives.

Designs brochures, newsletters and informational
data.

Writes and creates media ads, brochures,
booklets, flyers and other information to promote the various college programs,
activities and opportunities.

Edits, revises and proofreads material
which has been generated by other departments of the college. Coordinates
with departments regarding projects.

Communicates with media outlets to arrange
and confirm advertisements.

Works with external groups regarding the
mission and goals of the college.

Coordinates a phase of the overall college
recruitment program.

Administers the college's recruitment
plans in high schools by explaining SPC degree programs, opportunities,
services, facilities, admissions requirements and procedures.

Coordinates, develops and maintains interaction
with business by representing the college at various activities and events.

Directs and coordinates the Student Ambassador
Program for the college.

Performs public speaking engagements at
schools, business seminars, meetings and special programs.

Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications,
Public Relations or related communications field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years experience in the mass
media/mass communications, public information, or related field.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the college programs and
objectives. Knowledge of the admissions policies and procedures of the
college. Knowledge of modern information, communications and journalism
practices and techniques. Ability to research topics, organize information
and make presentations. Ability to make public presentations relating to
the college. Skill in writing and editing. Ability to communicate effectively
using speech and hearing skills. Ability to establish and maintain communications
with the media, public and college staff. Knowledge of sentence structure
and word usage. Interpersonal skills. Skill in reading comprehension and
proofreading. Knowledge of basic mathematics.
