POSITION DESCRIPTION

BASIC FUNCTION:
Performs complex and
advanced clerical, secretarial and administrative aide activities for the
College Attorney.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v
Serves
as administrative aide to College Attorney and the College Attorney's Paralegal
Assistant.
v
Assists
in the preparation and maintenance of operating budgets.
v
Reviews
and processes incoming material, records and reports.
v
Types
correspondence, legal pleadings, contracts, memoranda and briefs, reports,
forms, etc.
v
Prepares
and files legal documents for internal hearings with the Clerk of the Board of
Trustees and delivers them to necessary parties.
v
Prepares
legal documents and notices related to special hearings and bid protests and
other matters to be presented before the Board of Trustees.
v
Aids
in the response to subpoenas served upon the college.
v
Aids
in the preparation and administration of contracts as needed.
v
Assists
in preparation and administration of rules and procedure changes as needed.
v
Assists
in maintaining law library.
v
Arranges
and prepares registration and travel forms.
v
Oversees
and orders supplies as needed.
v
Coordinates
programs or operations related to specific areas of assignment.
v
Researches
information, statistics and records for College Attorney.
v
Assigns
specific advanced functions relating to the operation of the unit to which
assigned.
v
Operates
CRT, memory typewriter, word processor, personal computers or similar equipment.
v
Relieves
supervisors of administrative detail.
v
Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree or two
years of college with courses in secretarial science or legal secretarial
science, or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience
and/or legal secretarial work.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of sentence
structure and word usage. Skill in reading comprehension and proofreading.
Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to type at a prescribed rate of speed
and accuracy; ability to take and transcribe dictation at a prescribed rate of
speed and accuracy. Ability to transcribe recorded dictation. Ability to
operate a calculator. Skill in the use of a personal computer and current
software programs. Knowledge of legal terminology. Good communication skills,
written and oral.
