POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Student Affairs Generalist

 

DEPARTMENT: One Stop Center                                  SITE: Various

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: Senior Career -                           GRADE: 7

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assists potential, incoming, and returning students in all areas of the enrollment process

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receives applications and supporting documentation including transcripts, residency information, and other pertinent documents including those for non-immigrant student admission. Updates the Student Information System accordingly
  • Explains college assessments and the prerequisite requirements to students for the placement in academic courses
  • Assists students in the registration process
  • Reviews high school transcripts, college transcripts, and/or standardized test scores (e.g. SAT, ACT, CPT) information to determine need for assessment testing and course placement
  • Provides financial assistance information including Federal Financial Assistance application procedures, financial assistance award status, VA deferments, payment plans and scholarship information
  • Assists with college recruitment events such  as high school visits, Financial Assistance workshops, and other campus related activities
  • Determines students’ educational needs for support services and refers as necessary. Makes appropriate referrals to academic departments, tutoring services, Advising, Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, Financial Assistance, and Career Development
  • Provides academic advising regarding program requirements and transfer processes
  • Collaborates with Advising to assist students as needed with progression toward degree
  • Provides students with guidance to access student success tools via MySPC, the Student Handbook, and FACTS.org
  • Serves on various college wide committees and advisory boards as assigned
  • Provides development and implementation of student affairs programs and projects to support student learning and development (i.e. orientation, MySPC lab support, post secondary transition, and other projects as needed)
  • Serves as an academic coach by facilitating the Topics in Student Success course
  • Collaborates with Admissions on special projects as assigned
  • Performs related duties as required

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree preferred

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in a college in student services, student development or related area

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

            In-depth knowledge of education policies and programs. Knowledge of college admissions and records procedures policies (including FERPA and student confidentiality). General knowledge of financial assistance processes. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service. Computer skills proficiency in a Windows and PeopleSoft Student Administration environment. Ability to work in a flexible and fast paced environment; reason and exercise judgment and discretion; and work efficiently and accurately without close supervision.
