TITLE: Instructional Assistant II, Auxiliary Learning Aids (ALA)

BASIC
FUNCTION:
Supervises,
administers and ensures appropriate accommodations and testing of student with
disabilities. Instruct students in a complex and specialized learning
laboratory or other similar instructional location, under the supervision of a
professional faculty member or other staff person.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises testing
accommodations for documented students with disabilities.

Work as a faculty
liaison to ensure appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities.

Administers tests,
material prepared and assignments for students with disabilities.

Works closely with
learning specialists regarding the administration of the appropriate testing
and classroom accommodations for students with disabilities.

Assists professional
teaching faculty in a learning laboratory and serves as a resource person to
tutor students in the skills being taught.

Instructs students
enrolled in courses requiring laboratory classes.

Plans and administers
lessons and materials for laboratory classes.

Assists the professional
faculty member in laboratory administration and activities.

Maintains records of
students with disabilities regarding testing and tutoring. Maintains records
of supplies, materials and equipment.

Supervises department
assistants for testing students with disabilities.
-
Creates materials and
plans for classes as required of the specific area.

Performs related duties
as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s
degree. Bachelor's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3)
years experience teaching or tutoring students.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Competence in
the subject area assigned. Knowledge of the methods appropriate for instruction
in the subject area assigned. Knowledge of sentence structure and word usage.
Skill in reading comprehension. Communications skills. Ability to operate a
computer. Ability to interact well with students and faculty. Ability to teach
the subject area of assignment.
