POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:                Staff Training Specialist

DEPARTMENT:   Academic & Student Affairs                                                        SITE:            DO

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for assisting in the design, delivery, and updating of training and training management programs for college professional, administrative and career staff.

RESPONSBILITIES:

v      Assists the college wide coordinator of Staff and Program Development in identifying and tracking job related competencies and professional development goals, including computer-skills training needs and soft skills training needs for College employees at all levels.

v      Support the computer applications trainer in the design an updating of computer applications training programs an classes for SPJC professional, administrative and career staff in Windows, Office ’97 and 2000 applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Access; also Eudora, Netscape Navigator, and other basic software used at the College.

v      Participates on the Saba Design and implementation team to customize software for SPJC use in monitoring staff skills.

v      Assists the college wide coordinator of Staff and Program Development in demonstrating the Saba Training Management Software and its application in a wide variety of College-specific assessment and training applications.

v      Assists the college wide coordinator of Staff and Program Development in identifying new uses for the Saba Training Management Software.

v      Assists the computer applications trainer by teaching beginning level classes in the Windows Office Suite.

v      Analyzes computer skill deficiencies of all level of employees using a computer-based, computer skills testing software.

v      Helps to identify and/or create learning aids to improve skill and professional development of SPJC employees.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of an Associate’s Degree in an area related to computer applications and three (3) years of experience using the aforementioned computer applications; OR, possession of five (5) years of varied experience in designing and developing data base management tools for general administrative work and special-purpose needs.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

v      Ability to understand web-based administrative software and identify ways in which it can be used to support the professional development of SPJC employees at all employment levels. Knowledge of Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, Access and other Windows-based software applications utilized by the College. Knowledge of a variety of other windows software such as Netscape Navigator, Web Page Creator, WebCt. Communication skills necessary to interview/collaborate with College employees in order to identify training needs to enhance performance. Ability to collect and aggregate data, discern trends in that data, and produce charts and graphs illustrating those trends. Ability to design training classes and to establish course schedules. Ability to conduct training classes in computer applications software as well as training management software. Ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationships with faculty administrators and career staff of the College. Ability to establish and maintain a database of courses and participate. Clear and self-motivating interest in upgrading knowledge of skills and concepts related to professional training.
