POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Word
Processing SITE: Various
SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 5
BASIC FUNCTION:
Supervises and directs the operation
of a word processing center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v
Supervises
personnel within word processing center including student assistants.
v
Distributes
workload among center personnel as to meet schedules.
v
Maintains
production records, controls work flow; advises word processing manager of
project status.
v
Prepares
reports in conjunction with center operations.
v
Responsible
for budgeting input.
v
Maintains
payroll records for staff. Coordinates vacations and re-assigns staff members
to maintain distribution of workload.
v
Determines
working priorities, develops working calendar for peak load planning.
v
Maintains
inventory and supply records. Requisitions and controls supplies.
v
Assists
in hiring and training of personnel in the center.
v
Oversees
and controls quality of proofreading and revisions and maintains objectives
concerning quality of secretarial support.
v
Maintains
awareness of word processing manager's responsibilities so as to be able to
substitute for manager.
v
Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an
accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and
college courses in business.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience
in office administration including two (2) years as a Word Processing
Technician or Specialist.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of sentence
structure. Knowledge of word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Skill in
proof- reading. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to keyboard at a
prescribed rate of speed and accuracy. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability
to operate computer equipment. Skill in the use of word processors. Supervisory
skills.
