POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:                Museum Preparator

DEPARTMENT:   Art Education Center (Leepa-Rattner Museum)           SITE:      DO/TS

SALARY SCHEDULE:        Career Staff                                                         GRADE: 5

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform duties related to the Prep Department of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art. Activities include art handling, matting/framing of artwork, preparation of galleries for exhibitions and change-outs, labels, wall text, vinyl lettering, gallery lighting, maintenance of hygrothermagraphs, and photography of the collection. Work is performed under the administrative guidance of the Associate Curator & Registrar.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Inspect, clean and prepare artwork for matting, framing, conservation, storage and exhibition.

v      Maintain inventory of art objects located in locations throughout the College.

v      Prepare and coordinate exhibition and graphic design with the Museum Team.

v      Assist with collections management operations and The Museum System ©.

v      Coordinate photographic documentation of the collection in digital and 35mm.

v      Serve on the Curatorial Management Team composed of the Director, Associate Curator & Registrar, Curator of Education, PR Coordinator and Preparator.

v      Assist and perform related duties as needed.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

AA degree or higher (study of art history or studio art a plus)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in art preparation, art handling, framing, carpentry, safe handling of power tools, photographic equipment and computers.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Strong demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate and organize photographic operations of 35mm and digital cameras, competency in computers including CAD, graphic design and image-loading software, and internet research. Familiarity with The Museum System © software a plus.
