BASIC FUNCTION:
Manages and coordinates the
operations and employees of the college-wide telecommunications system. Also is
responsible for the integrated ATM network system, the related network
electronics and other network devices for District Office and ICOT Center.
Cooperates with other technical staff in installing, maintaining, and
troubleshooting instructional labs, office computers, printers, and other
network devices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v Supervises and participates in the work of telephone, telecommunications and computer technicians in the installation and maintenance of the college-wide telecommunications system.
v Plans daily work schedules and assigns technicians to projects.
v Supervises the installation of the telephone and networking systems and performs tasks of a technician.
v Assists in the planning of college-wide telecommunications projects, including those directly related to construction and renovation projects.
v Assists in writing specifications and guidelines for the telecommunications area of construction projects, as well as equipment specifications.
v Recommends the maintenance and upgrading for the telecommunications system.
v Maintains the records for the telecommunications network.
v Provides the first line of on-site network technical support to resolve network-layer issues related to passive and active network hardware servers, IP address problems, network connection problems, and network-centered system configuration issues.
v Works as the direct information conduit and liaison between the end-users and the Administrative Information Systems managers responsible for centrally managed network-centric services like e-mail, student registration and course management systems (REGIS), the finance system, web-based systems, the college-wide area network and other information management systems.
v Works in cooperation with the site computer support specialist to install, maintain, and troubleshoot end-user computers, printers, scanners, and other network devices.
v Assists in the design of network systems
v Performs preventative maintenance on network systems.
v Researches network related solutions to technical and business process problems.
v Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree or
equivalent combination of formal network training and work experience in Data
Communications, Data Processing or related field. Preferred is successful
completion of substantial course(s) of Microsoft Certified Windows NT training
and/or Novell Certified network training.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Five (5) years experience
in telecommunications, PABX Voice Systems and networking. Experience in the
installation of data systems, networking, installation repair and programming
of telecommunications systems. One (1) year NT or years of dedicated network
technical support experience preferred. Experience working in a mixed
UNIX/Windows 95/Windows NT/Apple environment preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of computer and
telephone networking and telecommunications systems. Knowledge of multiple data
communications. Knowledge of network equipment and systems. Knowledge of
network maintenance procedure. Knowledge of the sources of network components
and equipment. Knowledge of telecommunication concepts. Knowledge of
telecommunications facilities and trouble shooting techniques. Ability to
install and maintain complex networks. Supervisory skills and leadership
ability, including commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, customer
focus, and integrity. Ability to communicate both written and orally. Ability
to pass a post qualification physical examination.
