BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides advanced and highly
complex analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation, documentation
and staff training activities of software that includes or supports operating
systems, file and application servers, databases and network environments.
Responsibilities include functioning as systems administrator and performing
all tasks assigned to the Analyst/Programmer classification.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v
Functions
as collegewide systems administrator in the areas of database management,
security administration, network administration and overall system enhancement
and maintenance.
v
Performs
production and testing involved in database management.
v
Design
and develops policies and procedures related to the security and use of
computing resources collegewide.
v
Works
with all levels of college personnel in the analysis of computing needs.
v
Designs
computer applications, to include the development of specifications for using
mainframe and/or mini and/or microcomputers using any or all of the tools
available at the college that technology of the time has to offer.
v
Writes
computer programs and applications according to specifications, employing the
use of programming languages and/or software packages available at the college.
v
Documents
these programs to enable departmental staff to continue computer support to the
related systems.
v
Engages
in the appropriate testing of computer systems.
v
Participates
in the development of user and operational documentation.
v
Participates
in user training about computer systems.
v
Engages
in the continual maintenance and support of production systems.
v
Works
as necessary in the maintenance of system software for any of the college’s
mainframe, mini, and/or microcomputers.
v
Participates
as directed in support of Data Communications networks.
v
Works
as directed in the continual effort to employ effectively emerging technologies
in support of college needs.
v
Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in
Computer Science or related field.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years
programmer/analyst experience, to include systems software, network (LAN &
WAN), database administration experience.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of database/file
server design and administration. Knowledge of operating systems software.
Proficiency in using programming languages currently associated with the college’s
mainframe, mini, and/or microcomputers, as well as understanding these
computers’ basic software and hardware features. Skill in Mac/PC/file server/application
server implementation. Skill in functional and system design. Ability to work
with a minimum of supervision. Skills in project management. Ability to
function as a lead worker over other technical staff. Verbal and written
communications skills.
