A. Course Description:
This course is an instruction in principles of weight training and aerobic exercise. The emphasis is on muscular strength development and cardiovascular endurance. The course can be taken twice for credit. 32 contact hours.
B. Major Learning Outcomes:
1. The
student will develop an understanding of strength training techniques.
2. The
student will demonstrate the skills needed to execute Aerobic Dance movements.
3. The
student will demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of overall physical
fitness.
C. Course Objectives Stated in Performance
Terms:
1. The
student will develop an understanding of strength training techniques by:
a. utilizing proper techniques while using
Nautilus weight machines.
b. recognizing sound and unsound weight training
statements in written test.
2. The
student will demonstrate the skills needed to execute Aerobic Dance movements
by:
a. performing warm-up exercises.
b. performing a dance exercise routine.
3. The
student will demonstrate an understanding of basic concepts of overall physical
fitness by:
a. passing written exam on general fitness concepts.
b. creating special exercises to promote
flexibility and agility.
c. performing various kinds of exercises for
overall body fitness.
D. Criteria Performance Standard:
Upon successful completion of the course the student will, with a minimum of 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of each of the above stated objectives through classroom measures developed by individual course instructors.
The student will be able to use
correctly the Nautilus weight equipment measured by the development of strength. Furthermore the student will increase
cardiovascular ability by increasing their workload in aerobic movement.
