A. Course Description:
This course covers the prevention,
detection, correction and rehabilitation of sports and athletic injuries. Practical rehabilitation will be under the
supervision of a certified athletic trainer.
47 contact hours.
B. Major Learning Outcomes:
1. The
student will demonstrate knowledge of the terminology, procedures, and methods
used in the prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
2. The
student will be able to apply appropriate standard techniques to rehabilitate
athletic injuries.
C. Course Objective Stated in Performance
Terms:
1. The
student will demonstrate knowledge of the terminology, procedures and methods
used in the prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by:
a. identifying the muscles and bones in the
body.
b. identifying the action of the bones and
muscles.
c. recognizing various types of sports injuries.
2. The
student will be able to apply appropriate standard techniques to rehabilitate
athletic injuries by:
a. illustrating standard techniques to prevent
injuries.
b. using appropriate techniques to tape and
strap various parts of the body.
c. explaining various types of athletic injuries
and how they can be rehabilitated.
D. Criteria Performance Standard:
Upon successful completion of the
course the student will, with 70% accuracy, demonstrate mastery of the above
stated objectives through classroom measurements developed by individual course
instructors.
