Critical Thinking/Universal Design Courselets: Effective "active learning" strategies use the principles of Universal Design in Education to develop the critical thinking skills of all students, regardless of learning differences, learning styles, or disabilities. Active learning strategies come in a wide variety of formats, including multiple ways of presenting information to students (e.g., active lectures, narrated PowerPoints with transcripts), multiple ways for students to engage with the course content (e.g., teams, individual, or online), multiple options for students to demonstrate mastery (e.g., projects, simulations, real-world activities), and multiple ways for students to create meaning (e.g., concrete experiences and reflection).
The purpose of these courselets is to give faculty practical checklists and examples of infusing critical thinking into classroom and online activities using simple Universal Design principles. Each courselet should take about 20 minutes to complete.
