Isabelle Demers

Described by La Presse (Montreal) as an organist who “stormed through the tumultuous score” of the Reubke Sonata, performing with “vehement virtuosity” as well as the “utmost spirituality,” Isabelle Demers has given solo concerts in many venues throughout Canada and the U.S. Born in Lachine, Quebec, she started studying the piano at the age of 6 and was admitted to the Montreal Conservatory of music at age 11 as a student of Madeleine Belanger and Raoul Sosa on piano and Jean LeBuis and Regis Rousseau on organ. After graduating in May 2003 (piano-organ), Dr. Demers studied at the Ecole Normale de Paris-Alfred Cortot during 2003-2004 thanks to a Canadian Council for the Arts scholarship. She received her Masters degree from the Juilliard School in 2006, and has completed her doctoral studies at Juilliard where she studied organ with Paul Jacobs. Ms. Demers has been a prize-winner and finalist in many international competitions, including Miami, Dublin, Arthur-Poister (Syracuse) and the RCCO organ playing competition. Dr. Demers is currently the Organ Scholar at the historic Trinity Wall Street Episcopal Church in Manhattan.

Recently, Isabelle played recitals at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, St. Philip’s Cathedral in Atlanta,
St. Mary in Norwalk, CT, Washington National Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church in Allentown, PA, as well as in various venues in Quebec. Upcoming engagements include recitals for the Suffolk County AGO (Long Island) and other venues in Harrisburg, Reno, Jacksonville, Farmington Hills (MI), St. Petersburg College (return engagement), Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto. She has a special interest in the music of Max Reger, and performed all seven of his Chorale Fantasies in the 2008 Regerfest held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco. Ms. Demers also collaborates with Daniel Sullivan in performing their original transcriptions of orchestral repertoire.
