Production Suite

The MIRA Studio:

In Fall 2009 MIRA will be opening its new recording studio/laboratory on the St. Petersburg/Gibbs campus.  It will contain the gold standard of digital workstations:

  • Pro Tools HD2 setup with a 192 I/O interface and Digidesign C24 controller.
  • Mac Pro 8-core 3Ghz computer with 4gb of RAM, used as the master recorder.
  • M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro and Trigger Finger, used for MIDI programming.
  • Monitoring is done through a pair of Adam A7 monitors with a KRK V12 subwoofer.
  • The studio will be equipped with a full compliment of microphones, cue system, headphones, acoustic grand piano, drum kit, Roland Fantom keyboard, and rhythm section backline.

Mark Matthews has also transported his personal production suite from Los Angeles to the St. Petersburg / Gibbs campus where it will reside in the new MIRA Studio.  It includes:

  • A Pro Tools HD3 configuration with 192 I/O and 192 Digital I/O interfaces.
  • Mac Pro Quad Core and G4 computers are digitally interconnected running both Pro Tools and Apple Logic Studio.
  • Monitoring is done through Dynaudio Acoustics BM6A monitors and BM10S subwoofer.
  • Outboard gear includes a Crane Song Ltd. Spider 8-channel Microphone Preamp, Crane Song Ltd. Trakker compressor, Summit Audio Dual Tube Microphone Preamp, and various analog synthesizers.

Crossroads Music Laboratory:

Also in Fall of 2009, MIRA will be offering its MUM 2600 and MUS 1621 courses at the Clearwater Campus.  To achieve this, the computer lab in the Crossroads Building has been outfitted with fifteen Pro Tools LE workstations including M-Box 2 Pro interfaces and M-Audio Keystation 88 Pro keyboard controllers.

All of this state-of-the-art equipment and facilities mean nothing unless there is a sound being made to record and produce.

SPC Music Production Suite

St. Petersburg/Gibbs campus has a wide variety of very talented singers and instrumentalists ready for any recording project that comes along.  The interaction between composers, producers, engineers, and recording talent is an integral part of our educational mission.  We place a high importance on practical experience and we can deliver it in many different musical styles.

Just as producers, equipment, and talent need each other to create a piece of art, they also need a space in which to record this sound.  St. Petersburg College has many different concert and theatrical venues across various campuses that provide optimal sonic spaces to make recording a special experience.  The Music Center, The Palladium, The Digitorium, and the Arts Auditorium are just a few of these.  Each venue is unique and can accommodate various sizes of bands, orchestras, or choral groups.  Whether it’s rock, classical, hip-hop, jazz, or funk, we have the spaces to make a recording special.  An integral part of the MIRA Production Subplan are internship opportunities at these facilities so the aspiring engineer or producer can gain “real world” experience at professional quality venues.

All of these aspects come together in one place to make the music technology educational experience at SPC like no other.
