The study of
humanities is the study of what makes us all human and shows us our need
to reach for great things whether we are inspired by high ideals or
questioning the unknown.
Human beings have always needed to express themselves through music,
through painting, through stories, and through quests for answers to the
great unknowns in our lives. Wherever
there have been humans, there has been art, and as humans we have a
natural instinct to express ourselves in many different ways. From
scratching a design on the inside of a bowl, to painting a ceiling on a
vault 130 ft. long and 65 feet off the ground, art inspires us. From
singing songs of heroes while strumming simple stringed instruments, to
synthesizing eloquently the soaring
sounds of a symphony, we delight in music’s advances. From carving and
casting great statues to utilizing the harmony of mathematics in
architecture, we see grandeur. From reading about those who willingly
martyr themselves for great ideas, to reaching for education as a way to
diminish humankind’s eternal questions, we learn to challenge our own
ideas and passions.
