CROP was established in 1983 and funded through
the Florida Department of Education. This program is targeted toward
financially and academically eligible students in grades 6-12.
CROP is designed to motivate students to pursue a post-secondary education,
develop basic learning skills, strengthen parents' and students' understanding
of the benefits of post secondary education, and foster personal and career
development through supplemental instruction. The program primarily
utilizes employees of Pinellas County Schools to serve as mentors and
advisors to students in 13 middle and high schools. In addition to
academic engagement, students are also involved in college tours, career
exploration, and cultural and educational field activities. Students
also have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Residential
Program on the campus of the University of South Florida.
St. Petersburg College serves as the fiscal tracking agent for the Tampa
Bay Consortium which includes Hillsborough Community College, Manatee
Community College, and the University of South Florida.
