- Can I earn my Bachelor's or graduate degree through SPC?
Yes. SPC has a Baccalaureate Program with many degree options.
You can also earn Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees through our
University Partnership Center.
- What is an A.A. degree?
An Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree is a college-level, two-year degree (if enrolled full time) that, by law, gives a student admission as a junior to one of Florida's 11 state universities. This degree also can grant admission into other public and private universities. Certain bachelor degree programs require specific course completion with the A.A. degree. What are an A.S. and A.A.S degrees?
Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) degrees are college-level, two-year degrees (if enrolled full time) that enable students to directly enter the workforce upon graduation. These degrees also boost careers and allow those already in their field to upgrade job skills. Some A.S. degrees are transferrable towards bachelor degrees.

What is a Certificate program?
SPC offers more than 60 certificate programs. Each program provides
hands-on experience in a specific field. The certificate programs are a quick way to boost your career and receive the valuable training you need
on the job.

- How do I apply to SPC?

- How do I apply for a Health Education Center program?
Visit the HEC website and review the “Forms and Application” section. Refer to the HEC Frequently Asked Questions for additional resources.
- When should I apply for admission to SPC?
You can apply up to one year in advance. Apply as soon as possible to get the process started. Preference is given to students who apply and submit all required admission documents 14 days in advance of the term.
- Does SPC have an entrance exam?
SPC does not have an entrance exam. But SPC does administer the Computerized Placement Test, which measures knowledge of Reading, Writing
and Math. Your test scores will place you in the appropriate level of coursework.
- Must I take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT)?
For most first-time-in-college students, the answer is Yes. However, SAT/ACT scores and/or appropriate college-level coursework from another institution may be used in place of the CPT. Contact an academic advising office for further details.
Note:
SAT/ACT scores must be less than two years old to be considered in place of the CPT.
- What is orientation?
All degree-seeking SPC students must complete the orientation, which provides an overview of the college’s programs, policies, and activities.

- How do I make an appointment with a counselor or academic advisor?
Academic counselors and advisors are available on a walk-in basis, Monday / Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday / Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Staff members in the MySPC Answer Place (MAP) on certain campuses are also trained to serve as academic advisors.
- Does SPC offer GED prep courses?
SPC, in joint efforts with Pinellas County Schools, offers
GED preparation courses.
- Must I take a foreign language?
Foreign language is only required if your degree area and/or transferring institution requires college-level foreign language. An SPC advisor/generalist should be consulted.
- Do you have a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program?
No, but SPC does have a Registered Nurse (RN) program.
SPC also has a program for LPNs to train to become RNs. In addition, SPC offers a bachelor's
degree in nursing for people who are already registered nurses.

- How long are the waiting lists for the health programs?
A few of the HEC programs do have a waiting list that varies from session to session. Please contact the Caruth Health Education Center for
details at (727) 341-3687 or visit the HEC web site.

- What are credit hours?
Credit hours are assigned to courses and determine the required time a student will spend in class each week for a specific course. For example, a student can expect to be in class approximately 3 hours each week for a 3-credit hour course. Exceptions include Express Term, Modmester and many Summer Term courses. To earn an A.A. degree, a minimum of 60 credit hours is required. Other programs vary in the amount of required credit hours.
- Will my credits transfer?
Students who graduate with an A.A. degree from SPC or other community college are guaranteed certain rights under the Statewide Articulation agreement.
St. Petersburg College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award selected Bachelor’s degrees in Science and Bachelor’s degrees in Applied Science, Associate’s degrees in Arts, Associate’s degrees in Science, and Associate’s degrees in Applied Science, as well as certificates and Applied Technology diplomas. - Can I view a sample online/eCampus course even if I am not a current SPC student?
Yes. We encourage prospective and current students to visit our eCampus learning environment.

- Where can I get answers to my eCampus questions?

- Can I get financial Assistance for online/eCampus courses?
Yes. The guidelines are the same as for other types of credit courses. For complete financial Assistance information go to SPC's
Financial Assistance Services web site.
- How much time should I plan to invest in my online courses?
For each credit hour you're taking online or otherwise, plan to spend at least two additional hours per week on reading, studying, research, and other tasks. So if you're taking a three credit-hour course, you’ll need to devote about nine hours per week. For more information see the recommended course load.
- Can I get technical help with my online course?
Yes. Online help and useful links are available at the eCampus Help / FAQ page. You can

- I've never taken a course at SPC before. If I want to take online courses for credit, do I need to take any placement tests?

- What if I have to take the placement test, but I live too far away to come to an SPC campus?

- I've registered for an online course. What do I do next?
Review the eCampus admission and registration guide and watch for the SPC OneCard to arrive in the mail.
- I'm registered for an online course, but I can't sign in to my class. Why?
You won't be able to log into your Online or Teleweb courses until the first day of the course. Check your fee schedule for course start dates. Late registration may require one additional business day to access the course. If you continue to have problems accessing your course, call (727) 341-HELP (4357).
- How will I take tests in my online course?
Online students usually take tests online through ANGEL. Some courses may require proctored testing. Carefully review your course syllabus for testing details.
- In online/eCampus courses, is it OK to turn in assignments late or at the end of the course?
No. Assignment deadlines for online courses are just as critical as in traditional courses, so you'll need to turn in your assignments by the
specified deadline.

- What extracurricular activities does SPC offer?
SPC offers a variety of student clubs, organizations and leadership development programs. There's also friendly, organized competition
for men and women in co-recreational tournaments.

- What intercollegiate athletics does SPC have?
SPC has organized competition between colleges, including men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, tennis and volleyball. Visit the SPC Athletics site for more information.

- How much does a class cost?
For the 2008-09 academic year, college-level courses cost $77.54 per credit for in-state residents and $280.39 for out-of-state residents/international
students. The late registration fee is $25. Music, art, health, online and computer science courses are among those that require additional fees.
Upper-division courses are $85.20 per credit for in-state residents and $322.70 for out-of-state/international students.

- What is the payment process?
After you register, you'll be given a payment deadline. Fees can be paid:
- through MySPC, using American Express, MasterCard or Visa;
- by mail with check or money order (SPC Business Office, PO Box 13489, St. Petersburg, Fl 33733);
- with check or money order by dropping payment in one of the drop boxes located outside a campus business office
(Clearwater, St. Petersburg/Gibbs and Tarpon Springs sites);
- in person at one of the Business Offices at the Clearwater, St. Petersburg/Gibbs, Seminole, Tarpon Springs or SPC Downtown Center.
Note: If paying by check, please write the student's ID number across the top of the check.

- Is housing available for SPC students?
No, but there are several apartment complexes near each college site. Housing information is available through the Student Activities offices on each site.
- Where do I get my books?
Your textbooks should be purchased before classes start at the site* where the course is taught. Be sure to bring your class schedule so the bookstore
staff can help you find the books required for your courses. You also can order
books online.
*Textbooks for courses taught at the SPC Allstate Center must be purchased at one of the other college sites, or via the Internet.
- Does SPC offer free tutoring?
Yes. SPC has Information Commons and Learning Support centers for you. These centers provide free tutoring in a host of subjects, as well as
self-paced courses and a full range of testing services.

- When/How do I register for classes?
Most students register during the open registration period. See the Academic Calendar for specific dates. Register online via MySPC or on campus. First-time, degree-seeking students register after orientation and placement testing (if required). Transient students should bring their approved transient form with them to campus to register for classes.
- When do the sessions start?
Check our Academic Calendar for session start dates.
- What is a modmester?
Modmesters can be six weeks, eight weeks, whatever the department decides. Modmesters are classes that begin after a regular session or
end before a regular session.
